Jesus Ruiz, a college student in Arizona says he believes Latinos are viewed with suspicion by the police, protested the new immigration law during a rally last month.

Miami, May 28 (LAV) .- The new Arizona immigration law continues to cause reactions  in different sectors of the U.S. population. While some states want to implement a similar rule in their regions, the rejection of the Latino community to this type of policy grows more and more.

The law sets and gives power to the Arizona police force to check the immigration status of anyone “suspected” of entering the U.S. illegally. Human rights groups have criticized the law, saying it would legalize discrimination against immigrants who have different physical traits. (more…)

Miami May 27 (LAV) .- Two days after arriving to  the United States, the Colombian citizen Maria Castillo said she felt more “calm” and wanting to “move forward” in her legal battle against the country’s immigration services.
Castillo visited yesterday the law offices of Eduardo Soto to consult with the attorney and coordinate actions to take in the future. During the two hour visit, she had the opportunity to be interviewed by a reporter of the Univision Network, for the show”Primer Impacto.” (more…)

Miami, May 25 (LAV).- After several months of anguish and anxiety, the Castillo family lived Monday a day they will never forget at the Miami International Airport. Maria Castillo Cabrera a 58 year old woman returned from her native Colombia after being deported in November 2009 by mistake.

Castillo landed on a Cali – Miami flight at approximately 2:50 pm. Several Spanish TV Networks were present trying to get the latest news on the case.

Consular officers are required to report to the Department of State documentarily qualified applicants for numerically limited visas; the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security reports applicants for adjustment of status.
