In Fiscal Year (FY) 2008, USCIS used revenue from the revised fee schedule and from the increase in filings in 2007 to hire approximately 1,700 new employees – growing the agency’s workforce by approximately 20%. This additional staff, combined with business and process improvements, has resulted in significant progress.
April receipts were up almost 5% from March, as indicated on the chart above. Despite April’s increase, this year’s receipts are below forecast levels. The difference is particularly noticeable in filings of Forms I-140 Immigrant Petition for Worker, I-526 Investor Petition, N-400 non-military Naturalization, I-485 Employment-based Adjustment of Status and I-824 Follow-up action on approved case. In April, we completed 631,680 cases, which is 115,422 more cases than received in the same month.
